WEST TEXAS RUNNING CLUB
P.O Box 2921
Lubbock, Texas 79408
January is the start of a new W.T.R.C year; all Memberships expire
and payment of dues ($15.00 for 1st member plus $3.00 for each
additional family member at the same residence) is required to
continue receiving the Newsletter and have reduced club race fees.
New members joining after July 1 may pay $8.00 plus $3.00 for each
additional family member.
Our club is small by many standards--(approximately 300 members) but
fairly active. The club was formed in 1972 and has continued to
sponsor monthly races which offer low entry fees, yet has nice age
group awards. One of these is the 4th of July "Firecracker Run", in
Brownfield, Texas, which originated in 1970 and has the distinction
of being the longest standing continual road race in the state of
Texas. Two other monthly races have been held at the same location
and month every year since 1973. These races have some unique names,
"Horseshoe Bend Canyon Spring Frolic" (May) and "Buffalo Wallow
Half-Marathon" (November).
The club also assists in 2 larger community road races yearly. These
races feature T-Shirts and a slightly higher entry fee than our
"lower key" monthly events. In April, the "Run For The Arts"
features over 200 participants in an open 15K and 2mile race. Also in the fall,
the club produces the annual "Red Raider Road Race 5K and 10K",
coinciding with Texas Tech University's Homecoming, attracting
around 400 runners from around the state and nation. This race
benefits the "WTRC/TTU Scholarship Fund". At Thanksgiving we produce
the "WTRC Turkey Trot 12K and 2 Mile" races. Additionally, numerous
"fund raising" events for other organizations are held which are
sanctioned by and assisted by our club members.
P.S.: There are lots of good internet resources for runners. Many of
these such as RUNNER TRIATHLETE News, INSIDE TEXAS RUNNING,
OKLAHOMA RUNNER, and THE RUNNING JOURNAL can be accessed through
The Running Network....or see the "Links" page for other related links.
THANK YOU AND HAVE A GOOD RUN !!
